Welcome to South Sudan’s Official Energy Event

South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP), the nation’s energy conference, returned to Juba for its fourth edition, on 29-30 June, leading the future of investment and development in the country. This year, for the first time, the event was held in a hybrid format, with international speakers and delegates participating online alongside the local in-person event.

A decade after independence, South Sudan’s government has prioritized road-building, oil industry participation and power projects as means to stimulate the economy. Added to political changes in 2020 and the holding of the 2018 peace settlement, these developments promise to make a huge impact on the lives and fortunes of South Sudan’s businesses and people.

SSOP’s 2021 theme was #BuildtheNation: Capital raising and innovative financing to build critical energy and infrastructure projects.

Organized with the support and endorsement of the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Energy and Dams, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Labour, SSOP 2021 strived to increase capital investments in hydrocarbons, infrastructure, power generation, technology and related fields and firmly established the nation’s investment fundamentals post-COVID-19.

COVID-19 Protocol

All participants in the in-person South Sudan Oil & Power 2021 event needed to show a negative COVID-19 test upon entry to the venue. The organizer reserved the right to refuse entry to anybody unable to show a negative test result. International guests that arrived on 28 June used the same test that they used to enter the country. Locally based guests took a PCR test, free of charge to them, with MedBlue Laboratories, our healthcare partners, on 28 June. Any guests that were unable to show a negative COVID-19 test result upon entry were offered a rapid test on 29 June.

Energy Capital & Power contacted all delegates, speakers and sponsors by email to arrange COVID-19 PCR testing at locations around Juba on 28 June, including the offices of lead sponsors, and at the Crown Hotel.

All international guests that were in the country for more than 72 hours needed an ‘alien permit’, organized by their team.
